GREEK GARDEN II

Greek Garden II

When you’ve reached the peak of Ogden food-dom, what do you do next? Why, open a second location of course!

And after that? Sell those franchise rights and escape the miserable food business.

Greek Garden II is now in the process. The original and the sequel may or may not be run by characters out of The Greek Godfather—and boy, is their pita bread addictive. If you’re a gyro fan, this place is a home run. I love tzatziki sauce, and here you can dunk that gyro straight into it. Their yellow rice—what is it? Butter rice? Butter-lemon rice? Whatever it is, it’s heavenly.

Today’s order was chicken souvlaki. I get the hesitation—dry chicken skewers have burned me before too. But here? The chicken is juicy and bright with lemony, Greeky flavors. Honestly, it outshines the pork, which can run dry. Pro tip: get the chicken. The iceberg lettuce comes coated in vinegar Greek stuff, –pretty good! And the plate is rounded out with that killer pita and rice. The meal, plus a drink (though sadly missing those monster-sized Styrofoam cups that Greek Garden OG has), came to $17.51 after tax. I haven’t yet braved the suspiciously US Foods–looking desserts, but the baklava at least seems to be made in-house.

The location itself has that eclectic, Magnolia-meets-Greek-Aunt-Maria feel. Bold move setting up shop in Blue Lemon’s graveyard, but good food has the power to overcome a cursed spot. During lunch there was a steady stream of dine-in customers, and the constant dings from online orders told me they were plenty busy. And honestly, I’m just glad I don’t still have to wade through the goth sophomore crowd at Newgate’s depressing food court to get this kind of delicious Greek food.
